02/07/10 - Julien Ellis stopped all 31 shots he faced today to earn the Jackals first shutout of the season and a 2-0 win over the Devils in Trenton.  The offense was supplied by Tyler Donati who scored midway through the second period with assists from Justin Donati and Matt Robinson.  Olivier Proulx added an insurance empty net goal late in the third.  The win extends the Jackals lead over Reading to 5 points.  The Jackals continue on the road with two games next Friday and Saturday in Wheeling before returning home next Sunday (Valentines day) to face our true love (NOT) the Trenton Devils.


02/06/10 - The Jackals went into Reading tonight with a one point lead in the standings and were able to extent that lead to 3 points with a 3-2 win. Read Jackals presser


02/05/10 - The Jackals leapfrog the Reading Royals for first place after 5-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers before 10th sellout crowd of the season.  Jackals presser

02/03/10 - Midweek  Jackals news.  Yannick Tifu has been loaned to the Albany River Rats.  Matt Robinson named ECHL's +/- award for the month of January.

01/31/10 - Keegan Dansereau's first career hat trick was not enough as The Toledo Walleye came from behind today at First Arena and ended the Jackals 4 game winning streak in Overtime by a score of 5-4.  The Jackals did however extend their unbeaten in regulation streak to 5 games.  In their past 5 games the Jackals have earned 9 out of a possible 10 points and have moved to within 1 point of first place Reading.  Jackals presser

 01/30/10 - The ninth sellout crowd of the season saw the Jackals extended their current win streak to 4 games with a 7-5 win over Gwinnett.  The Royals also won tonight so Elmira remains 2 points behind Reading.  Jackals presser

01/29/10 - The Jackals pounded the Gladiators tonight by a score of 8-1 before 3,512 horn blowing fans.  That's right, tonight was Chemung ARC Blow Horn night at First Arena and the raucous crowd was at full throng throughout the game as the Jackals piled on the offense.  Seven different Jackals scored a goal with Justin Donati netting two to go along with 2 assists.  Brother Tyler notched four assists on the evening.  The Jackals are on a three game winning streak where they have outscored their opponents by a whooping 23-5 margin.  Reading was idol tonight and the Jackals win moved them to within 2 points of the first place Royals.  Jackals presser

01/27/10 - BSens Report

Senators fall to Adirondack 5-3

01/23/10 Walleye left Reeling after being Walloped by the Jackals by a score of 8-2 tonight in Toledo.  The win marked the second straight night that the Jackals totally manhandled the Walleye.  In the two game series the Jackals outscored the Angry Fish from Toledo 15-4.  The Jackals crept even closer to the first place Royals as Reading lost in South Carolina.  The Royals lead is only 4 points now.  The Jackals are home for three games next weekend with two against Gwinnette and one against the Walleye.  Let's pack the arena to support the Jackals.


01/22/10 - The Jackals defeated the Toledo Walleye tonight by a score of 7-2.  The Elmira win coupled with the Reading 8-4 loss on the road to South Carolina moved the Jackals to within 6 points of the division lead again.  The Jackals face off again tomorrow night with the Walleye.


01/17/10 - The Jackals avoided being shut out today when Justin Donati scored with only 1:01 left on the third period clock.  Wheeling hung on to win 2-1.  Jackals presser  Next up for the Jackals, a two game trip to Toledo to take on the Walleye this weekend.

01/15/10 - Jackals announce roster moves heading into weekend Note: I will be in Reading for Friday and Saturday's games but will not update the site until sometime Sunday.  Check back Sunday afternoon or evening for photos from these two games.


01/10/10 - Justin Donati called up to Binghamton will play for the Senators in today's game vs. Rochester.  Click here


01/09/10 - The Jackals defeated the Everblades for the second consecutive nights this time with a shootout win!  Jackals presser Justin Donati and Yannick Tifu each had four point nights for Elmira while Julien Ellis earned the shootout win between the pipes.  The Jackals climbed to within 3 points of first place Reading who lost to the Cyclones at home.  This sets up a huge battle next weekend as Elmira heads to Reading to face the Royals in back to back games Friday and Saturday and GOJACKALSGO will be there! 01/08/10 - The Jackals played some great defensive hockey tonight and defeated the Florida Everblades 3-1.  Goaltender Andy Chiodo was assigned to Elmira earlier in the day and got the start in net for the Jackals.  Max Gratchev was recalled by Binghamton.  Elmira got goals from Yannick Tifu (2) and Olivier Proulx.  Read all about it here

01/02/10 - The Jackals dug a 3-0 hole at home against the Reading Royals and were forced to try to mount another comeback.  They ended up loosing the game 4-2.  The Jackals return to home ice next Friday against the Florida Everblades.

01/01/10 - Try as the might the Jackals could not overcome falling behind 5-0 before mounting a comeback bid which fell short.  The final score was 7-4 in favor of the Trenton Devils.  With the loss the Jackals failed to gain any ground on first  place Reading which was idol.  Reading and Elmira go head to head Saturday night at first arena.  Read Jackals Press Release.

12/31/09 - The Jackals close out 2009 with a 6-3 road victory over the Johnstown Chiefs.  The win moves the Jackals to within 5 points of first place Reading.  The Jackals return home tomorrow night to face the Trenton Devils.  See you at the game!


12/29/09 - The Jackals explode for 7 goals on the road and win 7-1 over rival Reading Royals.


12/27/09 - The Jackals fell to the Wheeling Nailers despite a Max Gratchev hat trick by a final of 4-3.  The Jackals travel to Reading on the 29th for a chance to cut into the Royals lead.


12/26/09 - The Jackals defeated the Reading Royals tonight by a score of 6-3.  The Jackals brought back Mike Sgroi and it did not take long for him to make an impact as he had a goal and an assist and was a plus 3 for the evening.

 12/22/09 - BEN WRIGHT LEAVES JACKALS The Elmira Jackals announced Tuesday that defenseman Ben Wright has left the team to attend college in Canada.  Wright skated in 26 games with the Jackals in his rookie season.

12/20/09 - The Jackals defeated the Johnstown Chiefs 4-3 in a shootout.  Jarrett Konkle opened the scoring for Elmira at the 1:25 mark of the first period.  It was Jarrett's first goal and second point since returning to Elmira in the Fitzpatrick trade with Johnstown.  Olivier Proulx scored with 2:03 remaining in the third to give Elmira a 3-2 lead.  Chance Fitzpatrick scored with only 4 seconds remaining in the game to tie the contest and force overtime.  Neither team scored in the extra frame forcing the shootout.  Elmira outscored the Chiefs 3-2 in the shootout to give the Jackals the extra point and win. 12/19/09 - The Reading Royals squeaked out a win after being dominated in the game by Elmira and outshot 31-18.

12/11/09 - The Jackals take home a thrilling come from behind victory over the Johnstown Chiefs in a shootout by a final of 5-4.  Matt Robinson opened the scoring for Elmira at the 14:14 mark of the first period but the Chiefs tied the game with only 4 seconds remaining in the period to end the first 1-1.  Late in the second Johnstown scored two goals to take a 3-1 lead heading to the third.  In the third former Jackal Moises Gutierrez made it 4-1 Johnstown and it appeared the Jackals were all but finished.  STOP THE PRESS!!!  The Jackals came storming back as Brett Gallant notched his first of the year to start the comeback bid.  Gallant's goal was followed by markers from Justin Donati and Chris Korchinski to tie the game at 4-4 and send the game to overtime.  In OT the Jackals were awarded a 5 minute major power play but could not convert.  In the shootout Elmira got goals from Max Gratchev, Justin Donati and Chanse Fitzpatrick to seal the win.  Pier-Olivier Pelletier earned the win in goal for Elmira, his first of the season.


12/06/09 - The Jackals dropped their third game of the weekend and second straight to South Carolina 3-1.  They are now in second place 5 points behind first place Reading and 3 points ahead of both Johnstown and Trenton.


12/05/09 - As hard as they tried the Jackals could not overcome deficits of 3-0 and 4-1 but they did make a comeback bid which fell just short as the final score was 4-3 South Carolina.


 12/04/09 - The Jackals took a 1-0 lead in tonight's game vs. Charlotte with a goal by Chanse Fitzpatrick early in the second period.  Charlotte tied the game later in the second on a goal from Randy Rowe at the 8:40 mark.  Andrew Carroll scored the game winner for Charlotte midway through the third period.  Final score Checkers 2 Jackals 1.  The Jackals travel to South Carolina for game on Saturday and Sunday vs. the Stingrays.

In Binghamton tonight the Senators won 5-0 over the Syracuse Crunch.  Chris Holt was in net for the BSens and he turned away 26 Syracuse shots to earn his second straight shutout victory.  Max Gratchev scored his first career AHL goal in the third period on a 5-3 power play to finish off the scoring for Binghamton.

  11/29/09 - With a dominating effort the Jackals beat the Trenton Devils tonight 6-1 on the strength of two goals by Chris Korchinski and Yannick Tifu.  Also notching goals for Elmira were Keegan Dansereau and Justin Donati.  The Jackals set an ECHL record in the game for fewest shots on goal allowed by a team by holding the Trenton Devils to a total of 8 sog over the three periods.  Over the home and home series between the two clubs the Jackals outshot the Devils 85 to 28.  Great team effort Jackals!

11/28/09 - With two more players getting the call up to AHL teams, the shorthanded Jackals fell to the Trenton Devils 3-2 despite outshooting Trenton by 25 shots on goal with totals of 45 for Elmira and 20 for Trenton. Yannick Tifu scored both markers for the Jackals. These same teams meet again tomorrow in Elmira.

Congratulations go out tonight to Chris Holt who backstopped the Binghamton Senators to a 5-0 shutout win over the Rochester Americans.  Hats off to you Chris!


 11/27/09 - The Jackals lost to the Wheeling Nailers at home by a 4-1 final score.  On Teddy Bear Toss night the fans were still left holding their stuffed animals on their laps in the third period.  Fans did throw the bears on the ice when J.F. David appeared to have scored a goal to narrow the deficit but it was waved off by the Referee.  The Jackals face off against the Trenton Devils tonight in Trenton before taking on the Devils Sunday at First Arena.

11/26/09 - Adirondack Phantoms visit the Binghamton Senators.  The Senators won 7-0.  Max Gratchev was called up to Binghamton for this game and he saw a ton of ice time and even played on the BSens Power Play.

 11/24/09 - Goaltender Chris Holt has been recalled to the Binghamton Senators AHL Hockey Club.

This Friday is the annual Teddy Bear Toss.  In these tough times it is more important than ever for us to step and do our part to support this cause so be sure to bring a stuffed animal or toy to be thrown on the ice following the Jackals first goal.  Sunday is a Skate with the Jackals game.  Following the game take to the ice to skate with the team.


11/21/09 - The Jackals reclaim first place with a 5-3 win over Wheeling and a Reading 4-0 loss to Florida.  Tyler Donati scored two goals and Yannick Tifu added a goal and three assists.  Travis Gawryletz scored his second goal of the year and it was the game winner and Olivier Proulx added an insurance goal.  Elmira drew first blood with Donati's first goal but fell behind 3-1 in the second frame.  Tifu's first goal as a Jackal brought the team to within a goal as the second period came to an end.  Elmira took over from there netting 3 more unanswered goals to take the win.  Chris Holt was in goal and made 29 saves on 32 shots to gain the victory.

 11/20/09 - The Jackals lost a hard fought battle against the Wheeling Nailers in overtime 3-2 before another packed standing room only crowd of 4,055.  Max Gratchev scored both goals for Elmira while Nailer goaltender Adam Berkhoel made 33 saves to backstop Wheeling to the win.  Tim Spencer made his Jackals debut after being assigned by Binghamton.  Brett Gallant was called up to Syracuse and Justin Donati was a scratch due to illness.  Tyler Donati notched assists on both Gratchev goals and is now tied with Justin for the lead in points.  The same two teams face off again tomorrow night for the rematch.  Get your tickets as soon as possible to avoid being shut out. 11/17/09 - Justin Donati has been named the ECHL Player of the week.  Read the ECHL press release.  Justin's 4 goals and 7 assists for the week earned him the honors.  Jackals Presser  In other news, the Binghamton Senators have recalled defenseman Matt Robinson.


11/15/09 - The Jackals came off their record win Saturday night and scored an additional 4 goals today but their defense eluded them as they allowed Charlotte 6 goals to fall for the second time in three days to the Checkers by a final of 6-4.  The Jackals return to action Friday night at First Arena vs. Wheeling.


11/14/09 - Update: The Jackals said enough is enough tonight as they put an end to the 5 game skid with a dominating performance over Gwinnett.  The Jackals opened the flood gates and crushed the Gladiators 11-3.  Jackals presser The only Jackals held off the score sheet were Ben Wright, Travis Gawryletz, Brett Gallant and Michael Teslak.  Justin Donati had a 6 point night. Tyler Donati and Max Gretchev each had 5 points all on assists.  Overall the Jackals offense produced 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points.

 11/13/09 - The Jackals embarked on a 3 game road trip to the South and the struggles continued as they fell to the Charlotte Checkers 4-2.  Jackals Presser  Tonight the team heads to Gwinnett to take on the Gladiators before heading back to Charlotte on Sunday.


11/10/09 - The defending Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays came into First Arena tonight and came from behind to win it in a shootout 4-3 over the Jackals.  I was not at this game but my daughter Jasmine took over the camera duties for me and I think she did a fine job in my absence.  Thank you Jasmine. 11/08/09 - Today the Jackals lost their 2nd straight in regulation and third straight overall to the Trenton Devils to wrap up the 4 game series between the two clubs.  The final score today was 3-2.

11/07/09 - Tonight the Jackals lost a hard fought battle in which they relinquished leads of 2-0 and 3-2 to the Trenton Devils on the road.  The final was 5-4.

11/06/09 - The Jackals bid to tie the ECHL undefeated mark of 8 wins to begin a season fell short tonight as the team lost in overtime 4-3 to the Trenton Devils at First Arena.  The Jackals did however gain a point to extend their lead over second place Reading by 5 points.  Tonight's crowd of 4,325 set an all time franchise record for a Jackals home game.  Way to go to the best fans in minor pro hockey! 10/31/09 - The Jackals won their seventh game in a row 4-1 over the Trenton Devils to remain undefeated on the young season.  Tonight the ghosts and goblins were out in full force as the annual Halloween party took place at First Arena and the blood did flow!  A second period brawl that saw four players given game misconducts and which left Jackals Captain Olivier Proulx bloodied but not beaten spurned the crowd on to a "Thriller" like frenzy.  Here is the good news...Elmira and Trenton play the next three games vs. one another and you get to see the rematch next Friday night before the teams head to New Jersey for two games on Sat. and Sun.  Don't delay...Get your tickets NOW for this exciting rematch.

10/30/09 - The Jackals overcome a 2-0 deficit and defeat the Cincinnati Cyclones 4-2 before the third sellout of the season at First Arena.  Trailing 2-0 Elmira got goals from Matt Lowry and Chanse Fitzpatrick.  Chris Korchinski got the game winner, a beautiful shorthanded unassisted goal (see below) to break the tie and give the Jackals a 3-2 lead.  Tyler Donati added an empty netter to seal the win.  The Jackals extend their unbeaten streak to 6 games, the best start for the Jackals since joining the ECHL.  Tomorrow night the Jackals host the Trenton Devils.  Don't miss any of the action or the Halloween party.  Get your tickets today!

10/25/09 - The Jackals improve to 5-0 on the season with a come from behind 4-3 win in Wheeling.  The two teams entered the third period tied 1-1 and Wheeling extended the lead to 2-1 before Brandon Svedsen knotted it at 2-2 with his third goal of the season.  A power play goal by Tyler Donati put Elmira up 3-2 before Chris Korchinski scored a shorthanded empty net goal to extend the lead to 4-2.  Korchinski's goal was the game winner as Wheeling did not give up and with 12 seconds remaining scored a PPG of their own to make it a 4-3 score. Brandon Connolly scored the other goal for Elmira, his first goal in his first game of the year.  The Jackals return to the ice next weekend for two home games on Fri. and Sat. vs. Cincinnati and Trenton.


10/24/09 - Tonight it took 59 minutes and 33 seconds for the Jackals to get on the scoreboard and tie the game at one and force overtime.  Down 1-0 to the Chiefs and with goalie Chris Holt on the bench in favor of the extra attacker the Jackals were able to tie the game with just 27 ticks left on the clock with a goal by defenseman Ben Wright, his first of the season, to force overtime where they would win it on a goal by Chanse Fitzpatrick.  Jackals press release I do not normally do this but tonight's dramatic come from behind win merits these extra images on the front page.

10/23/09 - The story of tonight's 7-4 win over the Johnstown Chiefs was the power play as Elmira was 5 for 7 with the man advantage.  The win keeps the Jackals record on the young season unblemished as they are now 3-0 and in first place with 6 points.  The same two teams meet again tomorrow night in Johnstown and gojackalsgo will be there to cover the game. 10/17/09 - The Jackals took overtime and a shootout to do it but they defeated the Reading Royals by a final score of 6-5 to stay undefeated on the young season. Read Jackals press release

BSENS  REPORT

While the Jackals were battling the Royals, I was in Binghamton covering the parent club.  Tim Spencer did see some limited ice time in this tight game but did well while he was in the lineup.  The Senators battled to send the game to overtime which was quite a feat in itself after having been blown out on home ice by the same Hershey Bears 8-1 just a week earlier.  The Bears prevailed in OT on a goal by former Senator Alexandre Giroux who was named the games first star.  Game Summary

10/10/09 - The Jackals won their final preseason game over the Reading Royals by a score of 3-1.  Olivier Proulx notched two goals for Elmira in the win.  The regular season gets under way on Friday the 16th as the Jackals take on the Cincinnati Cyclones at First Arena.  The annual block party gets underway at 5:00pm with gates opening at 6:30 and puck drop at 7:35.  Be sure to get your tickets for this game while they last.  Don't miss a second of the action.  Elmira Jackals Hockey...Ten Years in the Twin Tiers!  Scores page

10/09/09 - Tim Spencer played a great game tonight for Binghamton and was the third star of the game for the BSens!  Binghamton won the game over the Syracuse Crunch 6-2.

10/08/09 - I will not be at Friday's preseason game vs. Trenton as I have been invited to cover the Binghamton Senators game vs. Syracuse.  I will share my photos from that game in hopes that Tim Spencer will get some ice time.  I will be in Elmira Saturday to shoot the game vs. Reading so check back for photos from Friday's AHL game and the second PS game for the Jackals.

09/29/09 - The Jackals announce training camp schedule.  Players will report for physicals on Thursday October 1st at First Arena. 09/19/09 - Max Gratchev, under contract to play for Elmira this season scored a pair of goals for Binghamton in their 4-2 preseason win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight.  Colton Yellow Horn also chipped in with a goal for the BSens and Travis Gawryletz added a pair of assists. Slavomir Tomko will not be back to play for Elmira this season having signed to play for the Utah Grizzles.  He will be teammates in Utah with another former Jackal - forward Nathan Gillies.

Jackals Roster begins to take shape

Brendan Connolly and Nino Musitelli are added to the Jackals 09-10 roster after agreeing to terms.  Connolly helped spark the Jackals offense during the stretch run toward the playoffs last season.  Musitelli comes our way after becoming a free agent when the Dayton Bombers ceased operations.  Nino was Dayton's leasing scorer last season with 50 points on 19 goals and 31 assists as a rookie.
